Receptionist/Office Specialist

The George Mason University Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs, within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), seeks candidates for a Receptionist/Office Specialist. Working in a fast-paced and demanding office setting, the receptionist is the initial and primary contact for visitors to the Undergraduate Academic Affairs office. The receptionist greets, guides, and directs visitors in the submission of academic requests, as well as referring visitors to additional staff members or other university offices when needed. A major function of the receptionist is to provide accurate and timely information about college and university procedures to students, staff, and faculty who contact or visit the Undergraduate Academic Affairs office. Additional responsibilities include data entry and tracking progress of requests submitted for review, compiling monthly calendars, including searching for and compiling up-to-date lists of events and updates to the unit’s web page. This position requires excellent professional presentation, communication, and customer service skills, good judgment, and the ability to provide an immediate response to requests and inquiries for a variety of university stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with MS Office;
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail;
  • The ability to coordinate administrative support for office members;
  • Experience in a high-profile, deadline driven, detail-oriented work environment;
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Capable of shifting priorities as necessary and responding to unanticipated new assignments;
  • Basic knowledge of the institution of higher education;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Office experience, especially within higher education;
