Administrative Assistant

The George Mason University Office of the Provost is seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) enthusiastic, detail-oriented Office Assistant to support the Academic Innovation and New Ventures Division of the Office of the Provost. The Academic Innovation and New Ventures Division is responsible for identifying, launching, and sustaining educational initiatives that fulfill Mason’s strategic plan and generate financial resources to support students, faculty and the educational mission.


This position will report to the Executive Director for Academic Ventures, Office of Academic Innovation and New Ventures. The incumbent’s primary duties entail a full range of administrative office support responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Managing the schedule/calendar (meetings, events, travel and office time) for the Executive Director for Academic Ventures, Office of Academic Innovation and New Ventures;
  • Providing high-quality general administrative support to the Academic Ventures team;
  • Performing routine office management (e.g., answering phones and directing queries, managing electronic communication, and maintaining confidential files) as part of the Provost’s Office team;
  • Assisting the Academic Ventures team with special projects;
  • Providing support to and in collaboration with other Provost’s Office administrative staff; and
  • Cross-train responsibilities to ensure effective office continuity at all times.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a fast-paced office setting;
  • Extensive experience with calendar management;
  • Able to manage competing priorities in demanding environment;
  • Strong computer proficiency, especially in Microsoft Office suite (Excel and Word);
  • Experience communicating and interacting with constituents at diverse levels of an organization;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment; and
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize multiple projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint; and
  • Experience in a higher education setting.
