Associate Director, Grants & Corporate Relations

The George Mason University, School of Business invites applications for the position of Associate Director, Grants & Corporate Relations. This is a full-time administrative faculty position with full benefits.

The Associate Director of Grants and Corporate Relations works closely with the School of Business dean’s office, central University Development office, other central offices and the School of Business Advancement team to help achieve the fundraising goals of the School. The Associate Director will report to the Director of Advancement and will be a member of the Advancement team. This position will be asked to establish an annual goal for research, outreach, proposal writing and funds raised. This goal will be incorporated into the overall Advancement goal for the business school, which includes the building campaign, annual fund, events, board commitments and alumni engagement.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Corporations and Foundations
    • Research corps/foundations’ priorities, find alignments that exist with the business school’s initiatives/campaign, draft proposals, apprise the dean of opportunities, participate in solicitations, and develop a pipeline.
    • Work with the Director of Corporations and Foundations at the University to ensure the business school collaborates with other units on outreach.
    • In conjunction with the Campaign Director, assist with establishing and promoting naming opportunities and partnerships related to the building campaign.

  • Grants and Proposals
    • Take the lead in drafting all proposals on behalf of the business school’s Advancement team – including solicitations of major donors, campaign prospects, and corporations or foundations.

  • Partnerships and Planned Giving
    • Where interests align, craft strategies for engagement, which may include pre-IPO investments of resources or expertise resulting in a return for the school over time.
    • Craft planned gift strategies for individuals explaining how planned giving vehicles can provide a source of income, long-term support and tax advantages.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters’ degree in a related field and demonstrated successful professional advancement and/or fundraising-related experience, preferably in higher education; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a university alumni affairs and/or development office;
  • Excellent research, writing and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Evidence of understanding, and the ability to articulate, the accomplishments and goals of a complex organization along with sound judgment skills necessary for interacting with donor prospects, trustees, faculty and staff;
  • Confidence to reach out and speak to potential donors in person or on the telephone;
  • Experience with grant writing and grant related work;
  • A creative approach to involve and solicit major donor prospects and possess the ability to motivate;
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting continuous deadlines; and
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and experience with a donor database.
