Information Systems Manager

INTO University Partnerships collaborates with leading universities to provide international students with a personalized and highly supportive learning environment in which to acclimatize to life on a US university campus and prepare for long-term academic success. Since 2006, INTO has launched partnerships to internationalize 18 universities in the US, UK and Asia, including Oregon State University, University of South Florida, Colorado State University, Marshall University, Drew University, George Mason University, St. Louis University, The University of Alabama Birmingham, and Washington State University. Each partnership involves the establishment of a business entity (joint venture) that supported financially by both partners.

Position Overview

The Information Systems Manager simultaneously servicing INTO Mason and INTO Drew University (80%-20% time allocation, respectively) is principally a technician tasked with the oversight and maintenance of data system integrations between each joint venture and their respective university partner.

The position also includes project development and management, mediation/negotiation between the joint venture and university partner over technology solutions, communication of complex data to non-technical staff, documentation of standard operational practices/procedures, and management of operational reporting/analytics.

The ideal candidate will have not only the relevant technical skills, but significant leadership experience and strong written and verbal communication skills as well. This position serves as a key member of the joint venture leadership teams at both INTO Mason and INTO Drew.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain data system integrations between the joint ventures and their university partners using Jitterbit Harmony, Salesforce, Microsoft SQL Server, and other tools.
  • Design, develop, and maintain both ad-hoc and routine reports for joint venture staff using Jitterbit Harmony, Salesforce, Microsoft SQL Server, and other tools (ex. Microsoft Power BI, Tableau).
  • Assist the Executive Directors of INTO Mason and INTO Drew, along with their respective leadership teams, in making business decisions by providing insights and guidance on the capabilities, costs, and potential of new data systems and augmentation of existing systems.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the joint ventures and the Information Technology department/units in their respective university partners. This may involve both direct decision making and/or advising of the Executive Directors on collaborative projects and service agreements.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Update/upgrade legacy workflows and system integrations to increase productivity and ensure robust data audit trails.
  • Promote and manage business relationships between the joint ventures and university partners to ensure strength in the partnership and mutual benefit from technology solutions.
  • Solicit user requirements from joint venture and university partner stakeholders to guide new projects.
  • Work within INTO University Partnership’s framework of published standards and practices
  • Provide leadership and technology education by mentoring & guiding staff and non-technical colleagues, recommending improvements in processes, automating manual tasks, promoting a positive and collaborative environment, and communicating concerns in a constructive and timely manner.
  • Escalate to INTO management any issues with the potential to impact service levels and help drive effective solutions.
  • Manage the procurement of technology hardware (i.e. desktop and laptop computers)
  • Act as project lead for software solution projects and innovative technology strategies
  • Other duties as assigned

Requisite Education and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year college/university.
  • Five or more years of experience in information systems development and/or maintenance. Specifically, relational databases (ex. Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) programs/procedures (ex. Jitterbit Harmony, Oracle Warehouse Builder, Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services, CloverETL, Informatica).
  • Five or more years of experience in information technology project management. Specifically, requirements assessment, scoping and resource estimations/planning, development and deployment timelines, agile methodology, UAT and MVP, and technical documentation.

Additional/Preferred Skills

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in computer science, information systems, data science, or related field.
  • Experience writing queries and procedures in Microsoft SQL Server (v. 2016-).
  • Experience creating operation and scripts in Jitterbit Studio and/or Jitterbit Harmony.
  • Experience using Salesforce, Financial Force, and/or other multi-module ERPs.
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner Student (or similar SIS) and related academic systems such as Blackboard, etc.
  • Experience in software development (custom software solutions, web-based front-ends, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of network technologies (i.e. VPN, ports, cloud technologies, virtual machines)
  • Experience working in non-profit higher-education (i.e. State universities or colleges) or federal or local government agencies
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a collaborative team environment and to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to lead, manage, and influence positively to obtain goals in line with company expectations
  • Willingness to travel domestically with some international travel possible
  • Willingness to arrange and coordinate meetings with global team members in different time zones

Position Requirements

  • Located at INTO Mason (George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, USA)
  • Regular domestic travel (4-6 times per year) to INTO Drew University (Drew University, Madison, New Jersey, USA)
  • Principally “in-office” with some remote/telework options (to be determined by the INTO Mason Executive Director and INTO North America Senior Manager, Information Systems)
  • Report directly to the Executive Director at INTO Mason with matrix reporting lines to the Executive Director at INTO Drew University and the Senior Manager, Information Systems for INTO North America.
