Director of Woodwinds Assistant Term Professor

The George Mason University School of Music invites applications for the position of Director of Woodwinds beginning Fall 2018. This is a full-time assistant term (non tenure track) applied faculty artist position with appropriate salary and benefits.


  • Applied teaching of graduate and undergraduate music majors within the School of Music;
  • Recruitment of woodwinds students across all areas of the school, including classical and jazz;
  • Additional responsibilities may include teaching woodwind methods courses, coaching woodwind chamber music, or conducting woodwind sectionals for any of the large ensembles at Mason; and
  • Recruitment and program development will play a large role in the responsibilities of the successful candidate.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in music;
  • Distinguished record of teaching and artistry at the local and national level, including a demonstrated record of success creating and sustaining a successful performance career;
  • Commitment to recruitment and developing relationships with music educators at the local, state and national level;
  • Demonstrated success with teaching in the contexts of a liberal arts university; and
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualification

  • Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) degree.
