Social Media Specialist

The Mason Innovation Exchange (MIX) at George Mason University is looking for a Social Media Specialist who possesses a well-rounded knowledge of the social media landscape. This position will assist the Marketing & Events Coordinator with the promotion of MIX and other campus events.


  • Promote MIX and campus events through social media
  • Assist with the preparation of digital and written content
  • Monitor social media engagement through all platforms
  • Manage and help grow the MIX’s following
  • Keep facility signage and Smartboard up-to-date
  • Assist with distribution of flyers, campus signage, press releases, media alerts, etc

Required Qualifications:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong knowledge of mainstream social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • High attention to detail
  • Understanding of digital analytics platforms
  • Use of social platforms in personal life
  • Experience with Microsoft applications
  • Experience with publishing software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Student at George Mason University
  • Prior experience in a consumer-facing social media role
  • Strong interest in technology; knowledgeable about what’s new
  • Creative, fun, highly motivated and energetic
