Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Theater Education and Performance

The George Mason University School of Theater seeks qualified candidates for the Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Theater Education and Performance. The program has cultivated and maintained excellent relationships with the metro-D.C. area school systems, an area known for high-quality schools and strong support of Theater Arts and arts education. Graduates of the School of Theater program have consistently found employment in their field.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will work closely with the College of Education and Human Development and local school districts to manage and coordinate placements for undergraduate- and graduate-level licensure candidates. In addition to demonstrated commitment to high-quality teacher preparation, the successful candidate will have experience in the following areas:

  • Teaching and/or administering Theater Arts at the Pre-K to 12-level;
  • Teaching college-level courses in Theater Arts methods for pre-service teachers;
  • Navigating Virginia Department of Education regulations and requirements for state licensure;
  • Managing field observations and internship assignments for teacher candidates;
  • Implementing assessment tools and analyzing resulting data for pre-service teachers;
  • Supervising and providing support for pre-service and in-service Theater Arts educators; and
  • Academic and professional leadership, with a record of—or strong potential for—research and scholarship.

Required Qualifications:

  • MEd. & MFA;
  • Three years of university teaching experience; and
  • Experience teaching, acting, and/or directing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD. & MFA;
  • Five years of university teaching experience; and
  • Secondary area of expertise.
