Student Academic Affairs Coordinator (02423z)

The College of Science (COS) is the largest research unit within the university, constituting approximately 30 percent of the total research portfolio. With a mission to produce science that enhances society, create clear career pathways for Mason students, and enhance economic development in the region and the nation, COS undertakes pioneering research endeavors that offer insight and solutions to the complex issues that challenge today’s world.

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, the Student Academic Affairs Coordinator will provide academic affairs and student affairs support for both the undergraduate and graduate student populations in the College of Science. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Serving as the first point of contact for student questions about academic policies;
- Advising students about related forms and processes;
- Replying to email inquiries for basic academic affairs information;
- Answering incoming phone calls and directing the callers appropriately;
- Creating and maintaining files for undergraduate and graduate academic affairs; and
- Assisting in all aspects of the development and presentation of student events.

Required Qualifications:

- Successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent life experience;
- Genuine interest in nurturing the academic growth of students;
- The ability to work effectively with students from the prospect through alumni stages;
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills;
- Well-honed attention to detail and ability to multitask;
- Outstanding customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Familiarity with undergraduate and graduate academic policies, student affairs issues, creating and coordinating student activities (e.g. convocation and orientation);
- Familiarity with Ellucian Banner; and
- Experience working in a higher education environment.
