Part-Time Professional Advisor
Division of Advanced Professional Teacher Development & International Education

The George Mason University Division of Advanced Professional Teacher Development and International Education within the College of Education and Human Development invites applications for the position of Part Time Professional Academic Advisor. We are looking for an organized, energetic, and self-motivated education professional to strengthen our dynamic team. This part-time staff position offers an opportunity to engage in meaningful work in a supportive environment, and to interact with a diverse group of students and faculty. Responsibilities:

The Part-Time Professional Advisor will serve as an academic advisor within the division, a role that includes monitoring student progress, ensuring that academic actions are taken appropriately, troubleshooting students’ administrative problems, and serving as a point of contact for external offices (e.g., Student and Academic Affairs, Financial Aid, Registrar, etc.). As part of the APTDIE team, the Part-Time Professional Advisor will also work with the Division’s Student Services Coordinator to ensure that students are adequately oriented and advised when entering the programs; and with the Academic Program Coordinators when monitoring student registration and to provide enrollment projections and graduation clearance.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in higher education/student affairs (or an equivalent combination of education and work experience); knowledge and understanding of academic advising/support for graduate students;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; demonstrated experience advising students in a university setting; experience working in a higher education environment with diverse student populations; and experience with student database/systems and Microsoft Office suite software.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Student Success Collaborative (software); proficiency in Ellucian Banner and Blackboard; and ability to work flexible hours.
