Tenure-Track or Tenured Position in Construction Engineering and Management

Sid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering

The George Mason University, Sid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering (CEIE), within the Volgenau School of Engineering, invites applications for a new tenure-track or tenured position in the area of construction engineering and management, beginning in fall 2018. Candidates applying for the tenured associate professor or professor positions must have exceptionally strong and established records of outstanding research and excellent teaching.

Responsibilities:
Successful candidates will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; develop an independent, vibrant, externally funded research program; advise students; participate in all aspects of the department’s mission; and serve the profession including service in professional organizations. Excellent communication skills are expected.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must have earned a PhD in civil engineering, construction engineering, construction management, or closely aligned field. The degree must be completed from an accredited institution by the time of the appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:
While applicants in all areas of Construction Engineering and Management will be given serious consideration, we are particularly interested in candidates in the areas of Computer-Integrated Construction and BIM, Smart and Sustainable Infrastructure Systems, Green and Lean Construction, and/or Global Engineering. A demonstrated ability to collaborate across all disciplines especially within civil engineering is an advantage. Industry experience and professional engineering licensure are desirable.

The Volgenau School of Engineering is a fast-growing force for innovation in technology and education. The school enrolls approximately 7,300 students in 35 bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programs, including several first-of-their-kind offerings. As part of a nationally ranked research university, the school’s faculty conducted more than $22 million in sponsored research in the last year. Mason is located in the affluent northern Virginia suburbs of Washington DC, which is known as the heart of Northern Virginia’s technology corridor.

The CEIE Department offers MS (both with and without theses) and PhD, in addition to an ABET-accredited BS degree. During the last five years, the department has experienced tremendous growth in new research awards, and in enrollment in the PhD program. Total enrollment across all degrees in CEIE has increased to 400 students. The Volgenau School of Engineering is committed to significant investment in expansion of the department faculty. The department has an enviable and strong relationship with industry, including over 30 companies and individuals working in partnership as the Civil Engineering Institute (http://civil.gmu.edu/about-cei), a unique organization formed to support the mission and vision of the department.
