Assistant Director of Admissions and Diversity Services

The George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School invites applications for an Assistant Director of Admissions and Diversity Services. The Assistant Director will lead the school’s efforts to recruit, support and place diverse students. The Assistant Director will work with the Admissions Office, the Career and Academic Services Office, the law school’s Diversity Committee, and student organizations to promote the school’s diversity initiatives. The Assistant Director will oversee the Diversity Services budget and decide how to use the available funding to market to and recruit diverse prospective students and how to support current diverse law students. The Assistant Director will play a major role in preparing and presenting the law school’s diversity and inclusion certificate program curriculum.

The Assistant Director of Admissions and Diversity Services will recruit and counsel prospective and admitted law students, which will require the Assistant Director to be familiar with the law school’s admission requirements, curriculum, and miscellaneous factual data, including but not limited to, faculty/student ratio, costs of attendance, admissions and enrollment statistics, bar passage, residency requirements, and career placement data. The Assistant Director will attend both weekday and weekend regional and national recruiting events (which will include weekday and weekend overnight travel), will plan and implement open houses and information sessions, and will assist with new student orientation and other Admissions sponsored events. The Assistant Director will assist in overseeing Admissions tour guides and student workers.

The Assistant Director will assist other Admissions Office personnel in processing applications for all law school programs. The Assistant Director will be involved in application review, updating applications, creating or updating marketing and application materials and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • JD or JD equivalent;
  • Strong writing and editing skills;
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills that indicate an ability to work independently, as well as part of a team;
  • Ability to work effectively and utilize a range of communication channels with diverse groups of student, faculty, administrators, staff, and members of the bench and bar from a wide range of backgrounds;
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook (or similar software);
  • Flexibility, sound judgment, and demonstrated ability to work with a diverse community of faculty, staff, students, and external constituencies; and
  • Ability to travel independently by air, automobile, train or bus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in admissions, pre-law advising, diversity services, or other university affairs setting, preferably related to legal education;
  • Experience with ACES2;
  • Demonstrated experience with group presentations; and
  • Experience with Banner.
