Director of Admissions

The George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School invites applications for a Director of Admissions. Responsibilities:
The Director of Admissions will work under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Admissions and Enrollment Management and in conjunction with the Admissions Office staff, the faculty Admissions Committee, the Career and Academic Services Office, the Financial Aid Office, the Records Office, the Student Bar Association and all of its sub-organizations, and other departments within the University to carry out the work of the Admissions Office. The Director will coordinate the law school’s recruitment effort for all JD students, including taking a lead role in the planning and implementation of all prospective and yield recruiting campaigns and events. The Director will develop creative recruiting strategies using a variety of print and electronic media to attract a talented and diverse class of students to the applicant pool. The Director will attend national and regional recruiting events, which will require overnight weekday and weekend travel. The Director will assist in file application review for all JD applicants and participates in admissions decisions. The Director will assist in developing scholarship strategies and in awarding and processing scholarships for admitted students. The Director will play a lead role in the transfer admission process. The Director will supervise the Admissions Coordinator, the Assistant Director of Admissions and Diversity Services, and the Associate Director of Marketing & Recruiting. The Director of Admissions will be responsible for other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • JD or JD equivalent;
  • Significant experience in admissions, pre-law advising, or other university affairs setting, preferably related to legal education;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent planning and project management skills;
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills that indicate an ability to work independently, as well as part of a team;
  • Flexibility, sound judgment, and demonstrated ability to work with a diverse community of faculty, staff, students, and external constituencies;
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook (or similar software); and
  • Ability to travel independently by air, automobile, train or bus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ACES2; and
  • Experience with Banner
