Term Instructor/Assistant Professor of Mathematical Sciences & MEGL Outreach Director

The George Mason University, Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Science (COS), located in the vibrant Washington, D.C., area, invites well-qualified candidates to apply for a nine-month, one-year renewable Term Assistant Professor position start the Fall 2018 semester. Responsibilities:
The position will have a teaching load that is determined according to the College’s workload policy and will consist of undergraduate courses. In addition, the successful applicant will serve as Director of Outreach for the Mason Experimental Geometry Lab (MEGL). The latter will involve scheduling, designing, and implementing outreach activities of MEGL to elementary and middle schools, and to the general community.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must have, or expect to complete, a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics by Spring 2019; experience interacting with elementary and middle school age children in activities related to learning and experiencing mathematics; and demonstrated administrative and organizational skills sufficient for the task of MEGL Outreach Director.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated strong pedagogical skill set;
  • Demonstrated experience providing interactive classroom instructional models in high school and/or university settings;
  • Strong intercultural competency;
  • Experience providing organized leadership in an educational setting.
