Senior Travel Fiscal Technician

The George Mason University Purchasing and Accounts Payable Office is searching for a Senior Travel Fiscal Technician to assist in administering the university travel program. Responsibilities:

The Senior Travel Fiscal Technician will ensure that travel reimbursement operations are conducted in a timely basis in accordance with commonwealth and university policy. Duties include:

  • Analyzing travel and moving and relocation vouchers to determine compliance with commonwealth and university regulations, adjusting for improper claims and notifying travelers where necessary, and assigning proper expenditure object codes to vouchers;
  • Assisting Mason employees and non-employees regarding travel/reimbursement policies and procedures, and guiding employees in completion of reimbursement requests;
  • Answering and assisting travelers regarding the Travel Request System (TRS) software and completion of travel reimbursement requests;
  • Assisting departmental leadership in completing various seasonal tasks;
  • Ensuring compliance with internal policies, agency rules and regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles;
  • Handling travel exception requests; and
  • Performing other duties as assigned or required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using a travel reimbursement or management system such as Concur or Chrome River;
  • Prior experience handling travel reimbursement processing in a high-volume department;
  • Experience applying travel voucher processing against a wide variety of complex travel rules and regulations that apply to local, state and federal laws; and
  • Ability to perform data entry tasks with a low error rate at a high rate of speed.
