Senior International Admissions Counselor

The George Mason University Office of Admissions is seeking a self-motivated, results-oriented individual to fill the position of International Admissions Counselor. This position will assist with all aspects of the admissions and recruiting process pertaining to international students. This includes the coordination and evaluation of applications, counseling of prospective international students, and may include some travel. Primary responsibilities include advising prospective international students on programs offered by the university and all issues related to the application and immigration process; processing and evaluating application documents; and analyzing and evaluating applications for admission. Additional responsibilities include representing the university at college fairs, high schools, and community colleges within the U.S. and abroad; and other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent combination of education and experience);
  • Demonstrated university admissions experience, preferably reviewing international documents and/or researching international credentials;
  • Extremely comfortable working with culturally and ethnically diverse populations;
  • Possess exceptional cross-cultural communication skills;
  • Comfortable with public speaking;
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills;
  • Willing to travel extensively;
  • Available for evening and weekend work;
  • Ability to multitask;
  • Detail-oriented; and
  • Comfortable handling sensitive and/or confidential information and situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual;
  • Experience living and working abroad;
  • Knowledge of international education systems and credential evaluation; and
  • Familiarity with Ellucian Banner and/or Salesforce.
