Admissions Counselor

The George Mason University Office of Admissions is conducting a search for a self-motivated, results-oriented individual for an Admissions Counselor position. Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include assisting with the development, maintenance and design of targeted communication plans. In addition to marketing communications, this position helps to recruit and counsel prospective students (mainly transfer students), evaluate undergraduate applications, represent the university at recruitment events, and conduct information sessions for prospective students and families. The candidate will be expected to work in collaboration with other team members across the university and the Admissions Office to ensure excellent customer service and drive enrollment among diverse student populations. Minimal overnight travel is required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Superior written and oral communication skills;
  • Familiarity with composing materials for diverse populations;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a hectic, deadline-driven environment often working on multiple tasks concurrently;
  • Impeccable attention to detail;
  • Strong project management skills;
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend work;
  • Comfortable working with diverse populations;
  • Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information and situations;
  • Comfortable with public speaking in large and small group situations;
  • Computer literacy and willingness to learn new software applications;
  • Comfortable with basic graphic design elements;
  • Proven ability to work positively as a team member;
  • Demonstrated customer service experience; and
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual;
  • Understanding of higher education marketing;
  • Previous experience with Adobe Photoshop;
  • Previous experience with HTML coding;
  • Previous experience with Ellucian Banner software;
  • Previous experience with Salesforce CRM;
  • Prior admissions or related experience; and
  • Demonstrated experience in creating and editing digital marketing materials.

Employment offer is contingent upon meeting eligibility requirements for operating state-owned vehicles and passing a background check.
