Director of Corporate Outreach and Special Projects, VSGI

The George Mason University Virginia Serious Game Institute, within the College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA), invites applications for a Director of Corporate Outreach and Special Projects.   • Help identify, develop, cultivate, and establish external partnerships, projects, and corporate support for VSGI programs and initiatives;
  • Help oversee, engage, and expand the VSGI/Computer Game Design (CGD) Executive Advisory Board and its subcommittees;
  • Assist the VSGI Director and VSGI/CGD faculty in securing grants and contracts with state and national companies, agencies, and foundations;
  • Support all VSGI Mason resident startups with overall corporate outreach, partnership acquisition, and early stage fundraising;
  • Working in concert with the VSGI Director, focus on coordinating and helping manage the national and international VSGI exhibits, expos, events, and presentations;
  • Oversee all regional, national, and Mason-focused initiatives such as the Capital Hill Mod-Sim Expo, the Commonwealth Mod-Sim World Expo, I/ITSEC, Mason VSGI Mobile Game Competition, Mason Game Speaker Series, Senor Game Expo, Off-The-Wall Fundraiser, MGTA fundraisers, and others as requested; and
  • If applicable, may teach two (2) Computer Game Design Program courses per academic year.


  • Assist the VSGI Director with establishing new external corporate partnerships and funding to support VSGI and CVPA initiatives, goals, and long-term plans;
  • Assist the VSGI Director with managing the VSGI/CGD Executive Advisory Board meetings, subcommittee tasks, agenda, assignments, and outcomes;
  • Identify and help write proposals and grants to help secure new corporate, agency, and foundation grants and contracts;
  • On a semiannual basis, develop outreach strategy, partnership acquisition, and early stage funding approaches for applicable VSGI Mason resident startups;
  • Develop yearly VSGI conference and expo schedules and plans, including timelines, budget, travel details, personnel, and required equipment lists;
  • In coordination with the VSGI Director, attend all regional and national applicable mod-sim, game, technology, innovation and entrepreneur-related events, expos, open houses, etc. to represent the VSGI, CGD, and CVPA;
  • Meet with clients, executive advisory board members, and partners on behalf of the VSGI Director; and
  • Teach two (2) undergraduate courses per year, as assigned by the VSGI/CGD Director(s).

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Extensive knowledge about corporate relations outreach strategy and corporate development;
  • Ability to manage C-Suite-level advisory boards;
  • Knowledge of business presentation software applications and tools;
  • Knowledge of the current technology and serious game industries;
  • Knowledge of current government contracting procurement process;
  • Possess an approach that fosters a respectful, non-threatening workplace environment;
  • Has a demonstrated commitment and ability to work collaboratively within a complex work environment;
  • Demonstrated excellence in corporate outreach and development, with a proven track-record of accomplishments;
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills; and
  • Proven critical thinking, problem-solving and judgment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the visual and/or performing arts is a plus.
