Development Specialist, CHHS Development Office

The George Mason University College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) invites qualified applicants to apply for a Development Specialist position. Responsibilities:

The Development Specialist will work closely with the Director of Advancement on strategic initiatives and advancement reports. The incumbent will also work with the Assistant Director of Advancement and the Office of Alumni Relations, George Mason University Foundation, and Financial Aid. The CHHS Development Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Researching and writing materials in support of fundraising and campaign priorities, to include corporate and private foundation grant proposals, newsletters, and other communications for print and web;
  • Implementing the stewardship process for all donors;
  • Overseeing the donor and prospect component of the college’s events;
  • Organizing the student scholarship review process;
  • Collaborating with colleagues in Alumni Relations, Marketing and Communications, system-level Advancement, and elsewhere across Mason to create communications that uphold university messaging, tone, style, and brand guidelines; and
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the Advancement Office.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (an equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree requirement);
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented;
  • Experience with coordination and management of special events;
  • Proficiency in planning projects, forecasting time requirements, and organizing internal and external resources;
  • Experience in grant writing and proposal development;
  • Experience of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with donors, staff, faculty, and students;
  • Ability to work independently or collaborate as part of a team;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters related to donor relations;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent proofreading skills and high attention to detail; and
  • Word processing and database management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Office experience in a higher education or not-for-profit environment; and
  • Knowledge or interest in healthcare and academia.
