Responsibilities:

The Director of Sales reports to the Executive Director of Mason Learning Solutions, and provides leadership for the overall management and oversight of all aspects of the sales operations for Learning Solutions. A member of the Learning Solutions leadership team, this individual is engaged in the development and execution of a sales strategy and customer acquisition process that ensures revenue targets are met or exceeded for Learning Solutions (1) multidisciplinary programs; (2) role-based programs; and (3) program-dependent closed cohort programs. The incumbent shall also interpret pricing structures that ensure generated revenues provide for Learning Solutions to remain a viable university entity; and guide identification and engagement of new customers, new program opportunities, and additional delivery modalities that result in diverse revenue channels. In addition, the incumbent will be instrumental in working with the Executive Director on strategies for acquiring donations to fund the Learning Solutions Foundation.

Duties:

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage and supervise the sales operations of Learning Solutions to include the direct oversight of all sales professionals; the development, implementation, and attainment of annual revenue targets; identification of potential new program areas for consideration by the university; and the recognition of when programs require refreshing or retirement;
  • Oversee development of, and approve, all customer proposals;
  • Develop and provide quantifiable targets for all sales personnel and guide attainment of those targets;
  • Represent Learning Solutions at corporate conventions and gatherings where potential corporate learning and development customers congregate; and
  • Serve as ambassador for Learning Solutions ensuring the supportive and enthusiastic culture of the organization is shared with both university colleagues and external customers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree or combination of education, training and experience which equates to an advanced degree (master’s degree in a related field is preferred);
  • Strong demonstrated knowledge of sales techniques and opportunity qualification processes;
  • Very strong demonstrated knowledge of sales strategy techniques, including the development of multichannel approaches to market;
  • Ability to expertly organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy;
  • Prefer experience in higher education with a strong sales or business development background;
  • Ability to work independently, but also thrive in a team environment;
  • Strong ability to negotiate with external providers and customers;
  • Strong ability to motivate sales professionals to achieve higher levels of market penetration and revenue performance;
  • Demonstrated experience in “owning” a revenue (and profit) target and achieving those targets;
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting market and competitive analyses in the education space; and
  • Experience in managing sales professionals, ensuring program opportunities remain in line with the overall expectations of the organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong ability to multitask, keeping track of multiple customer opportunities;
  • Strong knowledge of the learning and development market;
  • Strong knowledge of the adult education market;
  • Exemplary communication and customer service skills; and
  • Advanced use of computer applications (Microsoft Office suite).
