Athletic Trainer Resident

George Mason University Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, administrative faculty position for an Athletic Training Resident. This will be a term position from August 1, 2017, to May 15, 2019. George Mason University is a NCAA Division I institution and a member of the Atlantic-10 Athletic Conference.

Responsibilities:

The Athletic Trainer Resident is primarily responsible for the medical coverage of collegiate athletic practices, travel with sports teams, and coverage of sports events as assigned by the Sports Medicine Coordinator. In addition, the incumbent will engage in educational programs and experiences to develop their knowledge base. The primary sports responsibility will be determined by the Sports Medicine Coordinator.

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (M.A./M.S. or equivalent education) in a related field at the time of employment;
  • NATABOC (National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification) certification and eligibility for Virginia licensure;
  • Virginia Board of Medicine license required at date of employment;
  • Current professional rescuer certification in CPR/AED;
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills;
  • Knowledge of and the ability to work with electronic medical record keeping systems and other computer databases;
  • Ability to work weekend and non-traditional work hours;
  • Candidates also must possess the ability to safely and independently move objects of approximately 75 pounds;
  • Employment offer is contingent on meeting eligibility requirements for operating state-owned vehicles (http://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/?_ga=1.105652611.1401278467.1461868570); and
  • Required Travel: 50 to 75 percent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in intercollegiate and/or professional athletics; and
  • Candidates who possess manual therapy based certifications may be preferred.

A criminal background check will be required for this position.
