Term Assistant Professor/Instructor of Chinese

The George Mason University Department of Modern and Classical Languages invites applications for a one-year, renewable Term Assistant Professor position in Chinese to begin August 2017. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason’s academic and culturally inclusive environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Duties include 12 credit hours of language instruction per semester at all levels; requires availability to teach evening classes; and
  • Service responsibilities include undergraduate student advising and informal mentoring of part-time instructors.

Required Qualifications:

  • M.A. degree in Chinese or relevant field (Ph.D. is preferred, desirably with specialization in applied linguistics or SLA);
  • Native or near-native fluency in both Chinese and English; and
  • Demonstrated excellence in university teaching in North America.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to candidates conversant with instructional technology.
